The words live in the file first
Write the phrase in full, with the letters and line breaks you want. We print what is in the artwork. "Roughly this quote" in a chat with no file is easy to mistype, and the mistake lands on the chest. If you need a specific typeface, attach it or say we may use the nearest working font. A handwritten line as a drawing is fine, but then it is an illustration, not typeset text.
A short name or number is vinyl
A plotter cuts film in one or two colours. That is a surname on the back, a number, a short word. The edge is clean and there is no gradient. Each shirt can carry its own name without a new screen. A long paragraph is not cut in vinyl: the tiny holes inside letters fall out.
A coloured phrase is DTF
If the letters have a shadow, an outline, several shades, or a picture beside them, that is DTF film. The run can be one piece. The letters are not cut with a knife, so a complex face does not fall into islands. On a dark shirt a white underbase sits under the phrase, or the colour goes grey.
The same line on the whole run
Fifty shirts with one phrase in one or two colours is a screen-printing conversation. The mesh pays for itself on the repeat. Letters must be thicker than a hair: thin italic clogs with ink. If half the run has different surnames, the shared mark can go on a screen and the names on vinyl.
How big the line should be
On the chest a phrase is read from two steps, not from a stand. A line that is too long runs under the arms and cracks on the seam. A short one sits higher, not on the stomach. On the back the line can be wider, but the edge still stays off the neck seam.
